Convert subtitles from ssa to srt with Subtitle Workshop

I use the excellent Submerge to flatten subtitles into my AVI files and other movies. But sometimes, subtitles are available from sources such as SubScene or AllSubs as not the usual *.srt files (SubRip format) but as *.ssa or *.sub.

While searching for a converter between the captioned formats, Google did not turn up too much. After some searching I found a nifty little utility that allows you to convert between many formats of subtitles. It's Windows only, so if you are not on Windows you may have to use this within a virtual machine:

Download Subtitle Workshop

Usage is as simple as loading a subtitle file from the File menu, and then Save As and Bob's your uncle.

There are lots of subtitle DB's in the net and the one I'm telling doesn't have the best search engine in the world but it does have most subtitles I could find on a subtitles site. Just enter your movie name and .…. Abraca dabraaaaa :)

There's a free online caption format converter tool that converts between all major caption formats, including SCC, DFXP, Flash Captionate, SRT, STL, Quicktime, and SMI: http://www.3playmedia.com/resources/caption-format-converter/

    why you need to convert.
most players (subtitle handlers) support .sub, .ssa, etc. So use a proper player!

If you really want to convert!
You can convert sub formats with SubReSync tool that comes with VobSub.
But if you installed VobSub, you will have no problems with any subtitle format :)

    plus

If you use IE8, normal SubReSync might not open.
Have to install from this fixed setup

    http://css.setti.info/~perplexer/vobsub/vobsub223fix.zip

That second small 6kb convertor works. but if there are more advanced formatting in ssa, the srt will be messy

Due, this doesn't really convert, does it? Just changing the file's extension to srt does the same thing.
